What does joining a parent carer forum mean?
We want to make sure every parent carer in East Sussex knows we are here and that their voices, views, and experiences matter. The collective voice has the power to drive real change for our children, young people and their families – so we need more voices!
What does joining ESPCF mean?
You will receive updates and newsletters from the forum; you can join our closed Facebook page and you will be invited to various events (virtual for now). Making contact with other parent carers with similar experiences can be really beneficial. All of ESPCF committee members are parent carers, we all have shared experiences, and enjoy meeting regularly. Reaching out to each other is a lovely supportive part of being a member - but it is entirely optional.
Who can join?
You need to be a parent or carer with a child or young person aged 0 to 25 with any additional needs or disabilities. You must either live in East Sussex or your child/young person must be using East Sussex services. Your child/young person does not need a clinical diagnosis in order for you to join.
How will ESPCF collect the views and experiences of its members?
All views are held anonymously and in accordance with data protection laws. You can share your views by completing the membership form, commenting on our Facebook page or replying to tweets, and taking part in polls and surveys. You can always email us at [email protected] or call us on 0300 770 1367 if you prefer.
Can I become more involved?
Certainly! If you are interested in contributing further towards shaping services, and have a little time you can give to the forum, we would love to hear from you. We are always looking for parent carers who would be happy to attend meetings, comment on services, plans etc. and generally represent the forum's collective voice. You will be paid for your hours of work as well as expenses – including childcare.
How can I help?
Well, if you are reading this and you are not a member, please join us today! Please encourage any parent carers you know to join us, and spread the word about us on social media, and in any other SEND groups.
We really appreciate your support. Please remember that we are stronger together and we are here because our children and young people matter!
